This is way out there, but let us assume that in the next general election every person in every precinct throughout the country who desired to vote was able to do so.

Would all votes be counted correctly?

Would it make a difference if the votes were cast on paper or by electronic voting machines?

I am sure there is going to be a certain amount of error in even a legitimate election. Theoretically technology could eliminate most errors but unfortunately technology in this realm has proved to have some glaringly unacceptable deficiencies.
I would say counting paper ballots with representitives from both sides present would be far more acceptable. I think we will have paper ballots run through an optical scanner. It at least leaves you the option to count paper ballots if something looks fishy. There's a lot of details in a challenge also. Let's just say no one should abuse the privledge but it should be reasonably accessible(see dollars) to someone.
Frankly Jim I am quite worried that they are going to do it again. I think if they do the GP will be far less accepting. I would hope. Enough is enough and all this ad infinitum has got to be making even the civicly ambivelent a little nervous.

Is it possible that electronic devices could be rigged?

Optical scanners? Sure, but a paper ballot is run through them. There would be a bigger fear of some of the ballots going missing.

Am reading Amy Tan's "Saving Fish from Drowning"-very good. :-) There's a neat story in the front of the book I wanted to share, as it reminds me so much of this Administration and its war on terror, wiretapping, policies, propaganda, etc. and the sheep who swallow it all.
A pious man explained to his followers: "It is evil to take lives and noble to save them. Each day I pledge to save a hundred lives. I drop my net in the lake and scoop out a hundred fishes. I place the fishes on the bank, where they flop and twirl. "Don't be scared," I tell these fishes. "I am saving you from drowning." Sure enough, the fishes grow calm and lie still. Yet, sad to say, I am always too late. The fishes expire. And because it is evil to waste anything, I take those dead fishes to market and I sell them for a good price. With the money I receive, I buy more nets so I can save more fishes."

Re: the correct pronounciation of Wisconsin-there is no E in Wisconsin. The first syllable contains a short I. It rhymes with SWISS (people from IA should know this). WI is "The Dairy State"=cheese=swiss-will help you remember.
Other Midwestern mispronouciations-
Chick ah go: Ill i noiss;
Mich i gan (ch like in change); and Dess Moinz

Also, wishing a belated (on the blog) Happy Birthday to The Maniac
(April 17)-still not too late to send him an e-card, Ron. :-)
I doubt he will ever come back to the show and it's probably best for him that he doesn't, but I would think you could mend fences and wish him well. Despite all the ups and downs on the show/blog HE was YOUR friend for the most part.

Re: "Roswell Says"-Wow! I hope it will NOT be cancelled. :-( Now, that Lent is over I am listening again and expect that a lot of other people are listening, but are unable to or too shy to call in. 'Course, there are those who are too damn apathetic to get involved, also. Y'know the ones who won't protest along with Lonna and me or even go out and vote. One of the problems is that there was a group of people who called in pretty regularly who don't anymore (Some of us are SCARED of the curmudgeonly DJ who might say we sound like Dubya.) or can't call everyday or like Lonna have to go out of town for extended periods. The show shouldn't have to depend on a few people. JD is an idjit because advertising should be one of his priorities and figured into his expenses. Ron should have an 800 number and the show needs a wider broadcasting range. But, no, JD has made his magnanimus gesture to even let a liberal talk show exist in Chaves Co. and that's as far as it goes because Goddess forbid that more people should hear the truth about what this immoral and unethical and incompetent Administration is doing. JD's good buds, "Flyover Foley" and Rod Adair don't want that happening-right? Ron is way too loyal to JD and instead of criticizing Ron, JD should actually help him make the show a success. (One good way to do that is to stay off the show. No one wants to listen to JD. Ugh!)
Also, really enjoyed the last part of the show with Al Kissling. He had my vote anyway (Steve Pearce-Hiss!) but Kissling's views sound really good to me. Wish he'd talked some about the environment, tho. If he's on again, Ron, ask him about that and ANWR.
Ciao!

Pretty good show, today, Ron. Lots of callers. Seems like immigration is a good topic to go with-very hot right now. You should have actually stated that there is an total inequality of resources and money in MX (way that U.S.A. is going) when you were talking about fixing MX so its people don't have to come here. We can blame Bu$h's favorite people (the rich and greedy) for most of this. And I have heard that many LEGAL immigrants and Hispanic citizens do not want the illegal immigrants to stay here. They are competition in the job market. Also, who actually believes illegal farm workers get $10 an hr.? The reason Cesar Chaves started the farm workers union is because migrant farm workers were being treated like dirt and paid such low wages. I agree with a lot of what your guest said, but I think they're working for whatever they can get which is below minimum wg. with NO benefits. Mostly I agreed with you. Punish the employers who are exploiting illegals instead of giving American citizens those jobs. Also, punish the greedy Bu$h/GOP contributing corporations that are using NAFTA as an excuse to outsource manufacturing jobs.
Speaking of the GOP, what's with all the GOP candidate signs done in BLUE? Are they trying to trick Dems into voting for 'em or are they too lame to know that RED is their color? Look for the elephant on the sign. (Poor elephants-they deserve better than to represent the GOP- :-( )

Lonna here. In Atlanta, soon to go to SFO after being in Minnesota for Easter. The plan was to go to SFO today, but could not get out of Atlanta (my elder daughter is in ATL., my younger daughter and eldest son in SFO.
PLEASE (especially you, Ron) read this article on Cheney and the evil people in Cheney's office. http://www.prospect.org/web/printfriendly-view.ww?id=11423
THEY are the people who run this country, may God help us all!! Also Chris Floyd wrote a hair curling article today about nuclear war with Iran. AND John Dean wrote one about Bush and the "October surpise" possibilities. A London paper carried another article about Bush being a magalomaniac.
As a veteran wrote 3 years ago (but, of course he was given no press, just like General Zinni was given no press) "We have madness at the helm."

Got this in email today --

Things You Have To Believe To Be A Republican Today

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred
of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him,a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him,a good guy when Cheney did business with him,and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

You support states' rights, but the Attorney General can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

For those who haven't heard, the last day of "Roswell Says" will be Friday. Sad news 2 B sure for those Liberals and Democrats who loved it, partially because it gave us a voice here in this god forsaken county of yeehaws and sheep. I'm sure "Flyover Foley", Rod Adair, and the other horrible Republicans who still support The Bu$hrat and his gang of thugs are cheering and dancing an Irish jig (dang their vicious hides-hiss!)
I called the station and urged my friends to email and/or call just to let JD how much Ron and his show are appreciated by SOME of us.
Anyway, it will be sorely missed, and I HOPE we will still be listening to you on The Fox for a while yet, Ron. Tho, I wouldn't blame you if you went back to Denver. JD doesn't deserve your loyalty and you'd be able to see a lot more of your kids-just a thought. :-) "The Maniac" may call the show 2moro. Also, told Lonna as she called this aft. and she's not happy but not surprised, either.
Check your email, Ro. I sent you a card. Hope it will help cheer you up. I know you must be feeling bad-but this is not YOUR fault, OK? Take care, always.

Counted callers today-10, incl. me and the Maniacs & even one from San Francisco (Lonna) Don't expect it will save the show, but may demonstrate to Ron's politically prejudiced and repressive boss and the local GOP Party/sponsors that Ron has numerous loyal fans and listeners who truly care about him and his show.

That's a good thing.

I'm wondering if it's possible to get up a petition to get the show back?

Thanks.

It is possible to do a petition. I did one before, but got most of my signitures at a Democratic Party meeting. The thing is that there has been some pressure to get Ron to keep doing the show, but it sounds like he's just not into the idea under the present circumstances and I can't blame him for that. The poor guy has basically been working himself to death between the show, the research, the blog, etc. but trying to do a Liberal show in Roswell is like beating his head against a brick wall. I feel really sorry for Ron and blame the GOP powers that be here in this ignorant sheep filled county that mostly supports Bu$h and his gang of thugs. At least, Ron will be able to get a few more hours of sleep this way. :-) His show will be missed, tho.
There weren't as many calls today-4 callers (1 called back). Now, Ron probably wishes I had stopped calling for good. LOL What with talking about the Creator and refering to her as SHE (and he was undoubtedly thinking "Don't do that! We're gonna get calls from BOTH sides!!") Not to mention putting him on the spot when we were talking about teens and birth control. This is in reference to whether or not he and his ex would take their daughter to a doctor to get her birth control/condoms if she came to them in a couple of years and said she was ready to be sexually active. Ron did so NOT want to answer THAT question. LOL
Even parents who grew up in the hippie era are more like Roseanne and Dan than Larry and Abby ("Dharma and Greg"). I don't want to think about my kids doing it (or my parents-ugh!-would like to think I was immaculately conceived), but I had to be practical. I tried to preach abstinance, but have always been willing to get them birth control, too, because they were going to do what they were going to do and MOST kids are, right? Fortunately for me, I had a cool mom who felt like that even tho she didn't like having to do it. I couldn't have told my dad, tho cuz he woulda called the cops instead of the doctor! :-(
Kind of think, that's true of a lot of parents cuz men just can't handle the thought of their little girls ever growing up and doing "it", so do NOT want to deal with it beyond saying NO NO NO. They're more apt to lock them in a room til they're 40 than think about something so horrible. LOL Kind of like the way they don't want to practice birth control themselves or even get their male dogs neutered. (Goddess forbid! If you even utter the word vasectomy in their presence, they flinch and instinctively cross their legs-right? LOL)
Peace!

dc, two things:

Keep on, please.

Don't let anyone ever stop you from standing with the goddess. She is our power, our strength, and our source of life. I don't care what any Christian or anyone else says, that's our source. We can't let a radio show, or anyone else, take her away from us. I will never shut up on this subject.

Re: birth control, agreed. lol. I did what I could to make sure my daughter was protected (she's now grown and a mother), and will do everything in my power to make sure my son (who is now, as of February an adult as well) keeps himself protected for his girlfriend's sake as well.

Sure, we don't like to think about these things, but they must be done.

I do agree also that Ron must be horridly burned out. I remember days when I first worked at Ros Rad that burned me and stretched my limits to the hilt and then some.

What I don't like, on the other hand, is the show being deliberately taken away from Ron, rather than him giving it up on his own because he's tired and burned out or whatever.

The Repugs win in this, in my view. The sheeple should be ashamed.

Let's get it back for Ron, just so he can say he's too tired, ok? lol.

Re: the show-I would say that Ron is burned out, but mostly frustrated as he can't do the show the way he'd like to. A caller suggested today that Ron might want to do a 15 minute daily commentary and that it would be a way to get the REAL news out there for people who can't get "Democracy Now" or surf the Internet. Sounds like a good idea to me. In the meantime, he'll get a well deserved rest. That is if JD doesn't have plans to work him to death. I really sympathize with Ron, but what can we do? (Now, JD, I pity cuz he's a fool and doesn't appreciate what he has in Ron!)
To Donkey-loved YOUR comment! LOL That should be put on a bumper sticker or better yet a billboard.
Dedanna: No, I have no plans to go back to worshiping the MALE deity that MEN go to war in the name of. (Truthfully, I feel sorry for the male half of the Creator who surely hates the things MEN do in HIS name.) Much prefer Goddess with the emphasis on nature, peace, love, beauty, art, wisdom, etc. However, I draw the line at dancing nude in the moonlight despite the feminist idea that we should love our body types regardless of what they are. I'm just a little too rubenesque by today's standards (Oh, to live 400 years ago when a girl could eat and be happy!)I would need to lose 25 pounds and exercise a lot (Gah!) and then hope it would be dark enough that my stretch marks wouldn't show. LOL
Did you hear the latest GOP plan coming from that lame brain Frist? He wants to make up for high gas prices by giving a gas tax holiday or rebate check to folks. That's only a temporary solution to begin with (Hello! We need alternative energy!!), plus they are offering this in a package that includes drilling in ANWR. Well, of course the nature hating "we don't believe in global warming" idiots would go for this idea and I knew they'd use high gas prices to push it. Hiss!!! I invite Bill Frist to go up to Alaska and hope a polar bear will insure his extinction rather than the bears'. It would be a better world for all of us. And for Goddess' sake, I wish Dubya would illegally emigrate to MX and stay there. LOL

Seen on Yahoo News-headline is about Bu$h rejecting a windfall profit tax for oil companies. (Hiss!!)
Show was pretty good today-9 callers-but I felt pretty teary eyed when it was over. It will be missed. (sigh)
Contrary to what you sometimes say, mon ami, you do have a lot of friends out there who support you and wish nothing but the best for you. We all love you, too. I give JD credit for letting you have a Liberal talk show here in Bu$h Country and for keeping it on so long, but I have to blame the GOP powers that be ("Flyover Foley", etc.) who are probably ecstatic and the sponsors who are too prejudiced to support a good thing. Not to mention JD who didn't have the vision to promote your unique talk show when he had a corner on the Liberal market-that's his conservative Republican prejudice getting in the way of good business sense. (sigh)
Anyway, I wish you all the best, Ron. At least you'll get a little more more sleep now that you don't have to research for the show. Not to mention having more time for a social life which I heard you mentioned that on the show. (Puhleeze, come to our Dem Party rallies/parties. We want you to!). Linda is now speculating that you have a new lady friend. If so, hope she knows how lucky she is.
:-) Take care always.
Peace!

I was burned to a crisp dedanna. I cant keep it up. Morning show right into talk show right into voice tracking, production programming, music and now even traffic! Really! I (hopefully) tactfully told them it was too much to get anything close to my best work and they decided that if something had to go it should be the talk show cuz it didn't make any money. They want me for production and protecting the Country station. I didn't want to give it up but it was getting tiring working my ass to the bone and ending up with mediocre work. Word is though that KMOU is first in the new book. Whoopie! I think i can, I think I can, I think I can.! Please stay with me on the blog and we will all try to keep this thing going and growning. Re: Play Misty for us-guess, Linda had to make sure her end of show prediction came true somehow, even if she had to be the one to request it. LOL Told her that you hate that song, Ron. Turned on KPSA yesterday around 10 am just to see if you were chatting-just music, tho.
Love Cat Stevens' "Morning is Broken" but then Sinatra came on (I like his SINGING.), but hoped you weren't listening even if you were playing it cuz you'd surely be puking. LOL
Yeah, it sounds like you are busy as a beaver over there, but am just sorry it was the talk show that had to go. Regardless of what you say, R/S wasn't really supported by your conservative boss or sponsors. That is not your fault, tho. A mostly 2 yr. run for a liberal talk show here in Bu$h Country is a real achievement. Kudos to you. You can pat yourself on the back IF you ever find the time. :-)
