Mr. Popularity
Sorry I've missed you for a while. I had a tragedy in the family. My OS on my computer was killed, I think by chkdsk. It finally took reformatting and reinstalling everything(not done yet). Someday soon I plan to learn how to do and run backups! This is the first time system restore couldn't save my butt. More than 10 years of computing and this was the first full outright death. Anyway we are now lean and trim and cruising along again. While I reestablish my bookmarks and do some reading here is something for you to ponder. Seems the tide may be turning so don't let up now. I can't wait to get the grownups back in charge and back to something that at least resembles reality.

I'm glad to see you've got the blog up and running again. Radio talk show is next, I hope!
Just wanted to touch on the recent House vote to allow drilling in the ANWR. I have read that a majority of Americans surveyed have consistantly opposed this drilling, yet our legislators (mostly Republicans) in the House/Senate have gone along with Bush on this. They are supposed to be working for us THE PEOPLE not for the oil/gas industries.
Isn't the purpose of a wildlife refuge to protect the wildlife and their environment? I sometimes think that if the ghost of Teddy Roosevelt, a PROGRESSIVE (i.e. Liberal) Republican conservationist was to visit the White House today he'd probably want to hit Bush over the head with a big stick. It was laughable when Bush said that he was a good steward for the environment during one of the debates. Sen. Kerry who is an environmentalist should've really nailed him on that.
Anyway, people who are against the drilling should email/write to, or call their representatives and voice their opinions. I know that Tom Udall and Sen. Jeff Bingamon oppose the drilling and Sen. Domenici and Rep. Pearce do not. At the very least, strict safety measures should be taken to prevent accidents/oil spills in the ANWR and there should be enough inspectors to oversee this.
The World Wildlife Fund has an online petition you can sign (worldwildlife.org) and so does John Kerry http://www.johnkerry.com/RollCall
Kerry got THOUSANDS of signitures from people the first day he posted this- GOP had to have it put in the Congressional Record and they were MAD! This should have affected the Senate/House votes, but didn't. These folks may like their huge campaign contributions, but they still need our votes to get re-elected. Democrats aren't the only Americans who care about the environment. If Republicans voters are going to put these conservatives in office, they must demand that they do the right thing and conserve our wilderness areas, protect the environment, etc.
