Living The American Dream

Once again back to the land where all problems are someone elses fault and the solution is to do........nothing cuz I've got mine!

(from another blog) This is my response to:
You know what..I'm okay with this, almost. If congress was going to get rid of the AMT and therefore CUT about 200 million dollars a year of failed liberal social programs that create a permanent underclass of government dependant losers, I would say go for it.
-------------------------------
....this is the place where many of you burn my ass. You are SO HATEFUL of poor people. I know your knee will jerk and you will say I just don't understand what you are saying but you should look at your self again. After watching you and others here for sometime now I can no longer buy that. You would say you hate the liberals or the liberal principals that fail and cause this, right? Nope, your theory always includes them getting up off their ass or how they are lazy or cons or losers or criminals or minorities(immigration). For someone who inevitably works with them I would think you would know better. You find them a scourge not someone to be lifted. Yes, again, I know that you work with and try to help some of these people. Kudos, I do wonder if some of this comes from your personal frustration on the seeming lack of an answer to this problem.

There are things in nature that dominate over others. There are animals at the top of the chain and animals at the bottom. Some are more skilled than others and some are skilled at different things than other. These are inevitable facts of all living things. Nature, according to Darwin sorts this out with survival of the fittest. We humans are suppose to be a thinking higher order. In this lies the morality in which most liberals look at the poor people. To put a survival of the fittest mentality to the human race seems a bit less than civilized to most liberals. Social Darwinism is unacceptable. For our lives to have value we should care about others, have a sense of community and add to the stream of life. That is a liberal mindset. For a conservatives life to have value more is based on individual achievement being the key. There lies the crux of our differences. Yes, there are lazy people that suck off the teat of the government(us). There are also wealthy people that do the same thing.

The fact is that with differently skilled people we need to have a diverse economy. The end of the unions and industrial capability is not only a national security problem, it is a huge economic and social problem too. Many people who could do that work made a good living that was far preferable to the alternatives. It takes certain skills to do that work and it takes certain skills to be a Nasa rocket scientist. All of those people contribute to the capability and vibrantness of our nation. When we import low priced labor, bring down the wages of laborers and ship good, American Dream jobs, overseas. ..that is bad policy. It leaves the poorest among us few options toward a good life. A possible solution would be for us to take the lead in alternative energy and new technologies. Smart and mechanically skilled(all segments of the population) people would be necessary for the development and manufacture of the products.

I and, I am sure, nearly all liberals, agree that lazy people should get off their ass and go to work. As noted above a contribution to community in general is a liberal golden rule. To think one persons experience or life should match that of someone else is idiocy. We all need help in different areas of our lives. Is the way we are trying to solve the problem now the best way? Maybe not. I know some things that have happened(as noted above) will make it a harder problem to solve. We might want to start buy throwing away the shovel.

By the way, do you know what welfare programs and entitlements for the poor cost as a percentage of the budget? If you consider Social Security and Medicare/medicaid as a part then much of it. Take those two out though and it is 2%. About what we give to foreign countries in financial aid in a year. If you love our country you MUST care for the people in it because they are the country.

As for the % spent on social programs, I don't remember what it is, but I read it in one of Molly Ivins' books. It is a percentage of what our government spends yearly on subsidies for those corporations that outsource jobs so that people can work at Wal-Mart to sell (and buy because they can't afford to shop anywhere else on their wages) items made in China (possibly tainted with lead paint)that they would have made for a living wage and health care benefits here in the US. In other words, conservatives who whine about social programs while excusing corporate welfare are hypocrites, or are so brainwashed by Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, etc. that they can't see the light of day.
And 200 Mil. $$ a year for social programs is bad, but 10 Bil. $$$ a month for a war we were lied into and which has turned most of the world against us is good? These guys need to take a reality pill!

Also, what do you think about someone who has spent her life reciting The Nicene Creed at mass (We believe in ONE god...) insisting that Islamics have their own god cuz HER God doesn't chop off people's heads and encourage suicide bombers with promises of 70 virgins in the afterlife?
Seems to me, a monotheist, that there is one God for ALL of us who has many names and who is worshiped in many ways. There are bad things about a number of religions but that is because of the people who are members and doesn't mean that there is more than one God. Besides, God is Love, so how can you claim to love God and hate people of other religions so much that you refuse to believe you share the same God?

You can't really believe in one god and believe that people of different religions have different gods just because you disagree with how these people worship. But, people will recite all kinds of prayers in church and not understand or believe in what they are saying. It's unchristian to refuse to share one's Creator with people you don't like. Besides, we are all God's/Goddess' children-white, black, brown, yellow, red, Christian, Jew, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, etc. not to mention adult, child, man, woman, old, young, gay, straight, moderate, liberal, and even conservative (although they don't deserve it-:-)) I'd love to live in Sweden or one of those other countries where they have Democratic Socialism, so maybe I could afford to see a dentist. Health care is a must and why should Cheney who has about $50 mil. get his pacemaker, etc. courtesy of Uncle Sam? Let him pay for his own darn health care cuz he can afford it.
Rush Limbaugh ought to be put in the stocks and pelted with rotten fruit, etc. for what he has done to Graeme Frost and his family re: Graeme's response to The Bu$hrat on S-Chip. Did you see the photos of those poor kids on Countdown, Ron? Limbaugh who makes $25 mil. a year spreading hate and lies probably donates no money to children's charities (too busy spending it all on prescription painkillers, me thinks).

Well, did'ja see the headline about how The House failed to override Duhbya's veto of S-Chip? We can blame the slimy slug partisan Repugnantcans for that, including Pearce, who along with Wilson is running for Domenici's Senate Seat. Would be interesting if Patricia Madrid ran for the Senate and beat one of them. :-) And Duhbya's approval rating is now down to 24% and he says that the reason he has to veto so many bills, including S-Chip, is that he feels a need to "validate" his Presidency by being part of the system. What a yeehaw! Everything coming out of his mouth sounds stupider and stupider all the time. Don't suppose he even cares anymore. But, he'll pardon all the other bad guys and then when a Dem wins he won't get one and will take the fall for all of them. Anyway, what's with him suddenly wanting to be part of the system when he obviously doesn't believe in checks and balances?
Saw Barack on Leno last night. Pretty good. Turns out that he is Cheney's cousin 8 times removed. Barack says that he will not be attending any family hunting parties. LOL Guess, that makes Dick Cheney the WHITE sheep(le) of Barack's family.

Breaking news. Britney has lost visitation with the kids. Possibly Britney's dream is to make sure that she no longer has to be responsible for anyone?

Ron, to clarify a comment I made to one of your earlier postings. There are several "eco logic" organizations. The one to which I was referring can be found at www.freedom.org. They publish the ecologic Powerhouse. The difference between them and true environmental organizations becomes apparent. They are about as concerned with humanity and the environment as is Earth First. Click on the "about us" for lots of details. Remember they are supposedly against "world govt" and for "American freedoms" but supported WTO at the Seattle meetings and elsewhere while being opposed to environmental "radicals"

The United States and Christianity are both on life support right now. I wonder how the so called Christians feel about the fact that they have actually chased people away from the religion. I wonder why the conservatives are so stupid they don't realize fear and guilt as a tactic. They are robbing us all blind and my respect for those that defend it is now nil.

Larry: they are worried about one world government but support wto? How shallow a thinker do you have to be to not draw the connection?

I'd like to know how the so called Christions rationlize supporting Pearce and Bu$h when the latter are willing to spend $9 Bil. a month on this $$$$ war that 70% of the people want out of and yet are unwilling to increase S-Chip funding $60 mil. over 5 years when over 80% are in favor of it and almost that many are willing to have their taxes increased to do it
