Detention Camps

Interesting we are having the big "ports" debate while this is going on.

A recently announced contract for a Halliburton subsidiary to build immigrant detention facilities is part of a longer-term Homeland Security plan titled ENDGAME, which sets as its goal the removal of "all removable aliens" and "potential terrorists....... According to a 49-page Homeland Security document on the plan, ENDGAME expands "a mission first articulated in the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798." Its goal is the capability to "remove all removable aliens," including "illegal economic migrants, aliens who have committed criminal acts, asylum-seekers (required to be retained by law) or potential terrorists."

Wow! As I remember those Acts were extremely unpopular with the people and eventually rolled back. We have to do this all over again? ! Pre 9/11 mindset might serve them well.

Later, the New York Times reported that “KBR would build the centers for the Homeland Security Department for an unexpected influx of immigrants, to house people in the event of a natural disaster or for new programs that require additional detention space.” [Feb. 4, 2006]

In a view that I am sure will shock my liberal brethern, I could deal with it if they wanted to lock up illegal immigrants. It is a whole other post. I could also get behind building things to house something for emergencies and disasters. I get worried about it when I see "for new programs that require additional detention space. "

Despite the Posse Comitatus Act’s prohibitions against U.S. military personnel engaging in domestic law enforcement, the Pentagon has expanded its operations beyond previous boundaries, such as its role in domestic surveillance activities.

I hate to be disrespectful but I don't trust these guys any more than I'd trust George Micheal in the bathroom stall. Gee Ron, why would you say that!?

It is relevant that in 2002, Attorney General John Ashcroft announced his desire to see camps for U.S. citizens deemed to be "enemy combatants." On Feb. 17 of this year, in a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld spoke of the harm being done to the country's security, not just by the enemy, but also by what he called "news informers" who needed to be combated in "a contest of wills." Two days earlier, citing speeches critical of Bush by Al Gore, John Kerry, and Howard Dean, conservative columnist Ben Shapiro called for "legislation to prosecute such sedition."

Maybe cuz I'm already eligible....Sorry Donald Rumsfield, no harm will ultimately come from the truth. Only reform along realisitic lines. ....Oh come on Ron, they'd never lock up "Real Americans"!

With this expanded surveillance, the government’s list of terrorist suspects is rapidly swelling.
The Washington Post
reported on Feb. 15 that the National Counterterrorism Center’s central repository now holds the names of 325,000 terrorist suspects, a four-fold increase since the fall of 2003.

If that happens to be a list of people in America that would be slightly more than 1% of the people who currently fit into the "terrorist" category. Here is the offical terror central if you want to keep track. I don't see me on the list yet but the prisons aren't finished.

This is another one of those things that need not be a secret. We the people need to talk about this. We need to revisit proper restraint.

Do not worry, be happy. Your ignorance is your strength.

I actually know some people who live that way. Totally ignorant to the problems in life, who know very little about anything and who don't care, who are ignorant to almost everything around them.

What's funny is they do seem happy...

Re: the terrorist list --

Think I'll join Shining Path.

:p~~~~~

The thing that gets me, is look how many of them on that list are Islamic. Our gov't goes 'round saying that it will not discriminate against or stand for demeaning the Nation of Islam here in the states, yet they release a list that is demeaning to them, and in effect say "we're coming after you".

Man, what a bunch of arseholes.

Also, note the definition that they've posted of terrorist activity: 'to mean: "any activity which is unlawful under the laws of the place where it is committed (or which, if committed in the United States, would be unlawful under the laws of the United States or any State) and which involves any of the following:'

That is the same definition just about that they've got in the current Patriot Act for crime in general.

Now, look up terror in the dictionary:
1. Intense, overpowering fear. See Synonyms at fear.
2. One that instills intense fear: a rabid dog that became the terror of the neighborhood.
3. The ability to instill intense fear: the terror of jackboots pounding down the street.
4. Violence committed or threatened by a group to intimidate or coerce a # population, as for military or political purposes.

I'd like to know when definition #4 was added. As for the rest, they define GWB and his neocon buddies 100%. They prey on fear. Therefore, they would be the classic terrorists.

So, does that mean we get to bust 'em?

I *was* going somewhere with this... lol.

Well, you know that the detention camps are probably, also, for anyone who opposes Icky Dicky and the Ameri-fascists. (Hope that if/when I go, it's with Lonna, Diane, and the Maniacs. :-))
Yes, I expect that the Islamics are in for special grief. And hey, Bush doesn't have anything against Mexican immigrants, legal or illegal-right? He's more than happy to let the illegals stay here and work for dirt and no benefits as it will break the unions. It's good for "bidness" and that's what it's all about.
And, I'm also fighting with a Republican ex-in-law who keeps emailing me Republican propagada and drivel. I sent her something from Barbara Boxer and Code Pink and was told to get a life. That doesn't bother me as I've heard it at too many protests. Best answer is "Get a social conscience!" Unfortunately, to all too many people in this neck of the woods ignorance is bliss. :-(

Take care.

Noticed that Gov., er that is, Rep Foley was at it again at a meeting in Roswell blasting government spending. So it was especially good to hear that Gov. Richardson, had given Chaves Co. a healthy dose of capital expenditure red-lining. No doubt Foley, Adair and their Repub cohorts will rant over this too. But they have no grounds for complaint. This IS a cut in government spending. Of course it isn't their kind of cut; those cuts they like are for health care, real education, Texas-style tax cuts for "bidness", etc. No, these dastardly cuts were for -Athletics. Horrors! Call Homeland Security. This would be an excellent opportunity for Foley, et al to practice their free market social views by raising money from the private sector. But then athletics is tied to the insurance bidness and the sports medicine bidness. Guess Foley will just have to try to get the Government to pay for admissions to all school sporting events as he did a year ago at the Lege. Its all a matter of priorities.

Read an interesting article on the port deal today.

Brother NEIL is spending a lot of time in Dubai drumming up money for himself. Dubai was where two of the 9/11 hijackers banked and had safe houses. I should have pasted the link, it is an interesting article. He says his son will be president one day. His son also has learning disabilities.

You older people can probably remember all the press brother Billy Carter got. But criminal Bush brothers Marvin, Neil, and (in my opinion the biggest one of all, Jeb, for rigging two elections) get almost no negative press.

I also have seen where Halliburton (who else) will take over the port deal and then subcontract to Dubai. That is just something I sort of picked up and have not really read, so am not sure of, but would anyone be surprised??

Neil was also touring with Sun Myung Moon not long ago. The Bush family will do ANYTHING for money, including lie us into war so they can line their pockets.

FYI, Gov. Richarson was the Buzzflash "wings of justice" award winner last week for ensuring there will be paper ballots in this state.

Another veteran sent his awards back along with a letter to the president saying he no longer could keep awards given him by the military of a country that now fights wars of aggression, holds prisoners without charge or any hope of justice, AND advocates torture. He said he never would have believed it would happen in this country.

Wow! Who is this "Your" person and what is with all these links? Jeez! I make an effort to avoid such things and didn't think to see it on Ron's blog. Yuk! Was bad enough when I tried to find info on Chris Rice and some gay porn thing started sending me emails.

I am almost postitive the "anonymous" you ask to quote, Ron, is Democat, and you know who she is.

I have TRIED to get her to start calling the show again. I think she was a valuable addition. She knows different stuff than the rest of us do, and is obviously very sharp. BUT, so far she is resisting my efforts to get her back on the show. She says she has to break her addiction to the show. I told her she is depriving the people of Roswell of her very worthwhile input...

The Donkey, who knows more than any of us, can rarely call. Virginia can't call. We need Democat!

I see Vonnegut gave a speech. We can't compare Bush to Hitler but he (WWII veteran as well as being an author) did. He said the only difference between Bush and Hitler was Hitler was elected. He says Democracy is no more in this country. Corporations determine everything -- including who will be in Congress.

No,Lonna. That wasn't me (probably was Larry who is way sharper than DC), but I certainly agree that too much money is given to athletics, especially at the expense of giving it to music, drama, and fine arts programs... DC "dabbles" in the arts, but can only dream of being an artiste living in Paris :-)... but still why football over drawing and painting? Anyway, DC never says anything worth quoting-just ask her Republican in-laws :-( .
Ron knows why I don't call the show anymore and is OK with it. I agreed to keep blogging 2 make him happy (also am addicted to the blog). Anyway, I gave it up for Lent as a penance along with junk food (sacrifice means nothing unless you give up things you love like "Roswell Says" and candy bars, chips, nachos, ... (sigh)
I do pray for Ron (turns out he is a really nice guy and only pretends to be a curmudgeon) and the success of the show every nite. :-) Sorry, Lonna, it's a lost cause cuz I'm as stubborn as the crab that's for my birth sign.
LOL

Also, re: the porn spam. I'm not a prude (love to read women's erotic, for example), but am glad Ron got rid of this. Most porn is disgusting, degrading to women, and makes sex look as dirty as the evangelicals do. Making love is not supposed to be an obscenity, but a gift from Goddess.

Oh, re: doing penance cuz DC has been so bad this year- esp. on this blog :-( -she's still so bad that she will not be doing penance for insulting Lame Game.
Will The Donkey?
Also, Lonna, ya gotta understand that you and Diane are the ONLY ones who miss me on the show and you can both talk to me anytime. And with Ron it's like:
Go if you want to go.
Stay if you want to stay.
I don't care if you telephone me.
I don't care if you go away.
He has a new regular caller now, plus all the info from you, Larry, etc. and apparently The Maniacs aren't missed. I would only be a superfluous caller. The important thing is that the show get some new callers and be successful in what Ron is trying to do. (See, even the overly emotional DC can be pragamatic SOME of the time.
:-) )
Ciao!
