Stopping Terrorism

You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one:

it never appears to have occurred to Washington that once Russia was out of the way, Bin Laden's organisation would turn its attention to the west.
The danger now is that the west's current response to the terrorist threat compounds that original error. So long as the struggle against terrorism is conceived as a war that can be won by military means, it is doomed to fail. The more the west emphasises confrontation, the more it silences moderate voices in the Muslim world who want to speak up for cooperation. Success will only come from isolating the terrorists and denying them support, funds and recruits, which means focusing more on our common ground with the Muslim world than on what divides us.

The author of the article was Former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, who quit government over the Iraq war. He died on Saturday after collapsing on a Scottish mountainside

I agree with the former foreign secretary. This isn't just a war of men and guns it is a war of ideology. I'm not mincing words though, this is a war, and we are not on the same page. We're not even in the same library. These Islamic terrorists are strapping bombs to their chests and charging into crowded subways while we decide how best to handle their cvil rights in prison. Closing that divide should be our number one priority.

Before the Iraq war moderates in the Muslim world were scared to come out...they would be killed instantly..

However, now that war in Iraq, war on terror, war on evil Islamic extremist..or as liberals want to call them...heroes...there has been
free, democratic elections in Iraq,
free, democratic elections in Afghanistan...
women voting in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan...
Attempts at elections in Saudi Arabia and IRAN for god sakes...

You see, this is the liberals whole problem...lets see if we can figure out why people hate us and want to kill us, them maybe we can change our ways to make them happy...well, people blowing up buildings and subways do want to change our way of life, and they are only using our "tolerance" against us, to destroy us...

All the good happening in the Middle East would not be happening if we didn't start the war on terror...Bush is accomplishing more to possibly change the entire world and history by ending the rule of Islamic extremist (liberal freedom fighters)in the Middle East...

The body count is tragic, but I think there were many days in WWII when the USA lost more lives than have been lost in 2 plus years in Iraq...

Thank god we did not have the liberal media and hippies running around weakening the countries resolve to fight even in WWI and WWII...

Joe, Ted K. sent letter bombs to our scienctests and professors in an effort to "defeat" technology. How did we handle him? Whats the diff besides he's a US citizen? Even that doesn't matter anymore under the patriot act. How do we want our people treated when they are captured? What impression do we want to give the Moslems that might be convinced to side with us? What do we want to say/tell them about our system?

Game..you oughta talk to joe a little more and turn off limbaugh. The idea that anyone that was truly liberal would find anyone that killed in the name of religion a hero is ludacrus on its face. It's when you say things like that that people think you have been through a total brainwashing.
While I acknowledge and encourage developments towards self determination I think you make a common conservative mistake. A narrow view.
Could this fight have been done in a smarter way. Seems obvious to me it could have. We had the world on our side. Now we have more terrorism and more "power" and influence by them than ever before. Thousands of deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars later. Liberal media????? Huh! More brainwashing. They have pushed this war and president to the hilt. I have no idea how you can deny that, especially considering the media you seem to gravitate to. This fight and winning it is far different than world war one and two. Remember, 9/11 changed everything.

Man Ron, you must have eaten your liberal pills today...for 8 years clinton was president, did all his "understanding" and having the world "like him" stop the middle east from becoming a place that 9-11 was planned...

I just love how you don't address the fact that much good was done and just say I listen to Rush too much...

Oh wait, I forgot, Carter took care of terrorists and freed captives with his understanding...wait again, that was Reagan scaring the shit out of them...

Sometimes you make good points, but trying to say talking to crazy radicals who strap bombs to themselves will make a difference and that the media isn't liberal is just laughable.

I reiterate something that has come up time and time again:

9/11 didn't happen when Clinton was president!

9-11 was planned while clinton was prse.

He did nothing about multiple attacks on Americans while president, making us look weak, and the terrorists thought we were to pussy to do anything anymore...

And if you want to say that the whole 9-11 attack was planned in under a year, then I will wave to you as you are taken to school on your yellow bus.

Oh yeah, we caused quite a muck before 9/11, we were up in everyone's face. We sat back and watched the polls and preached understanding. Obviously we deserved to be attacked. Do you know that is what you are saying, that we deserve to be attacked? You sir, deserve to be attacked, numerous times by every American who believes that we cannot sit back and explain away our problems, we must fight them.

Joe, the disagreement is over how to deal with our problem. I would postulate that the current method is the worst attempt at peace and harmony, democracy and freedom yet.
