God Bless America

Watching NASCAR tonight. Ya, I know, big surprise. An interesting bit occurred though. They showed a crew member who had served in Iraq. The young guy was Vietnamese. However he was born and raised in America, and served our country. While he was of the Vietnamese race he was surely as much an American as any of us. It really gave me an, as of lately, rare very proud moment.
This is also a good example of why I can not believe people get away with calling huge masses of other Americans "terrorist sympathiser" and belching "they hate America". How disgustingly short of the American spirit is that! I think every time someone says something like that the response should be ...HOW DARE YOU! Don't let them get away with that crap. It's disgustingly low mudball politics. Here's to an America that belongs to us all . THANK YOU veterans for being willing to risk your life for our country. I hope we all can help you preserve all you fought for.

Watching Nascar? What a complete waste of time! LOL
'Course this is coming from someone who has yet to watch a single episode of "American Idol" or "Dancing With the Stars" and is proud to admit it. ;-)
A Vietnamese serving in Iraq is not such a big deal, Ron. Plenty of Japanese Americans served in WW II, although they were not allowed to serve in the Pacific. I suppose that their families were all in internment camps in the USA at the time-the shame of which can be attributed to FDR, a painful thing for a Dem to admit about one of our own.
Don't you know that we're all traitors if we disagree with Cheney? Rosie O'Donnell, bless her heart, is a "tritor" to the troops and a "terrorist sympathizer" cuz she disagrees with the war, but hey, at least she won't be airing her opinions on "The View" anymore.

Received this in email today:

HE'S A SAINT

President George W. Bush was scheduled to visit the Episcopal Church outside Washington as part of his campaign to restore his poll standings.

Bush's campaign manager made a visit to the Bishop, and said to him, " We've been getting a lot of bad publicity because of the president's position on stem cell research, the Iraq war, Katrina, wiretapping and the like. We'd gladly make a contribution to the church of $100,000 if during your sermon you'd say the President is a saint."

The Bishop thought it over for a few moments and finally said, "The Church is in desperate need of funds and I will agree to do it." Bush showed up for the sermon and the Bishop began:

"I'd like to speak to you all this morning about our President. George Bush is a liar, a cheat, and a low-intelligence weasel. He took the tragedy of September 11 and used it to frighten and manipulate the American people. He lied about weapons of mass destruction and invaded Iraq for oil and money, causing the deaths of tens of thousands and making the United States the most hated country on earth. He appointed cronies to positions of power and influence, leading to widespread death and destruction during Hurricane Katrina. He awarded contracts and tax cuts to his rich friends so that we now have more poverty in this country, and a greater gap between rich and poor, than we've had since the Depression. He instituted illegal wiretaps when getting a warrant from a secret court would have been a mere administrative detail, had his henchmen lie to Congress about it, then claimed he is above the law. He has headed the most corrupt, bribe-inducing political party since Teapot Dome . The national surplus has turned into a staggering national debt of 7.6 trillion, gas prices are up 85%, and vital research into global warming and stem cells is stopped cold because he's afraid to lose votes from some religious kooks. He is the worst example of a true Christian I've ever known. But compared to Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, George W. Bush is a saint."

I'm with you there too but I must admit to a large amount of self interest in prioritizing the United States.

Kim: I loved it! The Bushes are Episcopalians, too, except for Dubya and Laura (She's Methodist), so they count among the folks who Pat Robertson doesn't have to be nice to cuz they are infected with the spirit of the Anti-Christ. Yeah, like sure. A fundamentalist is a fundamentalist whether it's Christian, Islamic, Jewish, or whatever. They all display rigid black and white thinking, literal belief in the Bible, Koran, Torah, etc., subjugate women, and are intolorant of other religions. Unfortunately, the fundamentalist wackos are extremely influential in the U.S. and Iran and I have no hope for BUSH, of all people, working out any kind of agreement with Iran.
Episcopalians, Catholics, etc. are much more broadminded. They are more tolerant of differences, although I have to say this hasn't always been true of The Catholic Church which has committed many many attrocities in the name of The Prince of Peace against "pagans", Jews, and Islamics and looked the other way during The Holocaust. I am sorry to say, though, that many many Episcopalians, though not anti-intellectual sheeple, are still fervent Republicans and Bushies. Why? They've got money and Bush takes care of his own cuz he just loves them rich folks, doesn't he? Most of them will never get to Heaven any more than a camel could get through the eye of a needle, but hey, the religious wrong hushes all that up.
Ron: Add "Survivor", "The Amazing Race", etc. to my list of never watched-reality tv-gag-and what's the deal with "Deal or No Deal". Jeopardy is my idea of a good game show. Yet, reality tv shows are always in the top ten shows every week and we wonder why so many people still support Bush. Their brains have turned to mush from watching reality television and "Beavis and Butthead"!

Actually Bevis and Butthead have more pointed social commentary than any of those other shows. I usually watch news or documentaries type stuff. But it's a free country, and I honestly believe it takes all kinds. Sure adds to the variety of life.:-) It is a little sad though when peoples dreams and fantasies come from TV.

What's worse is when they come from right wing religious fanatics or greedy sociopathic oilmen, like Duhbya's obviously do. LOL
"Bevis and Butthead" is disgusting from the little I have seen of it which I wish I hadn't. If you want to watch a good LIBERAL animated show, "Family Guy" is the one to watch and "American Dad" does a good job of lampooning a
G Gordon Libby clone self-important ultra-patriotic idiot CIA guy, too.
Speaking of TV, ER's season finale was interesting. One of the patients was a morphine addict who had been an interpreter in Iraq. When he was refused medication he broke into the meds room and overdosed himself. During the intervation, he started screaming in Arabic. When he came to and the docs were talking to him, he explained that he had been interpreting for military personnel who were questioning Iraqis and torturing them. Naturally, the interpreter was traumatized, also, and when he got stateside with an injured back he was given morphine for the pain and then not treated otherwise and discharged in a matter of months. The other things was that 2 of the docs went to an Iraq war protest which was peaceful until some guy in the crowd started catcalling, shots were fired, and all H*** broke loose. For some strange reason, there was an orange alert the day of the protest and it was surrounded by cops on horseback. Hmm. Interesting, and do you suppose that could happen in REAL LIFE and that the cops or feds could have deliberately planted pro-war jerks in the crowd to cause trouble so there would be a riot?
Some TV series do mirror real life situations. I've also got a feeling the ER writers and producers may not be too happy with the Iraq War. It's nice to see that some tv shows are dealing with the issue, but it may just be that Duhbya's approval rate has fallen so low that some of the media isn't afraid to criticize anymore, even if it's fiction and not the news.

Sorry. Have to say that having /heard him say so/, Dubya's actually an atheist. I think he just puts up with his wife's religion cuz she's his wife. lmao.

He /caters to/ the religious fanaticism because that's what rules the world right now. Christianity. And he wants to rule the world every bit as much as Cheney does. I don't care what anyone says, it's the truth. The stupidity? That's an act. He knows /exactly/ what he's doing. That's what makes the man so evil. He's a member of the PNAC, and the Skull & Bones Societies. Need I say more?

But then, so is Clinton. I just hate this Clinton kissing ass to Sr. Bush shit. I hate it. More solid proof to me that they're all the same, whether Dem or Con.

Speaking of which: Didn't you all know that the original philosophies in the Bible actually /encourage/ taking over the world? So what does that make Christianity? What does that make Christians?

Proud to be a pagan. :D

Granted, Duhbya isn't as dumb as he acts(he couldn't be), plus he obviously has ADHD and dyslexia. I think he has street smarts-the kind that sleazy used car salesmen have, but he isn't interested in learning anything new. He doesn't read/watch news, listen to/read polls, etc. What he knows is mostly what Cheney, etc. tell him.
Yeah, he is a member of Skull and Bones for the same reason he got into Yale, his father and grandfather were rich powerful alumni and members of S&B. He's not smart enough to be in PNAC. Jeb is, like Cheney, Rummy, etc. You can check PNAC out on their website:
www.newamericancentury.org
There's a mission statement of goals with a lot of names on it, incl. Cheney's.
I have read that "W" got religion to stop drinking. It's a kind of independent Bible study-evangelical type w/cherry picking Bible passages/verses and skewing them whichever way suits them. Laura is Methodist.
The so called Christians in Bush's Administration and The UNChristian Coalition aren't real Christians, of course. It's a road to wealth and power for them and the sheeple are all brainwashed, of course.
The Catholic Church started it all off, what with the Nicene Council throwing out all kinds of books it didn't like including the Gnostics', and creating a myth re: the Virgin birth and all. Then there were all the women persecuted and burned for witchcraft and the typical misogyinistic cr*p that comes with any patriarchal religion, not to mention The Inquisition, etc. Jesus' true message of love, peace, charity, tolerance, and mercy seems to get ignored a lot and the idiots that think Bush is a saint...Ack! Mother Teresa is a saint. Francis of Assisi is a saint. Bush is, at best, deluded.
I wouldn't call myself a pagan, although I like some of the Wiccan beliefs about revering nature. I took a test online and scored high for new age religious beliefs. I'm pretty much ecumenical and think there are good things in most religions. I don't want to pray to Bush's MALE god of war, money, etc. So, I have embraced the FEMALE side of the Creator-a Goddess of mercy, love, nature, art, wisdom, etc. Also, I believe in reincarnation. So, according to the Bushies, I am definitely getting left behind during The Rapture. Won't they be surprised if it actually happens cuz they'll be the one left behind. LOL

It actually goes back further than that, with the incoming Catholic religion (at the time) stamping out ancient wisdom as from the Druids (of whom there were only a handful, literally, left of), among others, by bloody battles, executions, etc. to those who wouldn't bend to their will.

Then, stealing parts of the ancient's religions that suited their greed, and using them as their own. From there, it all spread and evolved into what is known as the lies and b.s. in the bible - Christianity.

Let's see, what does genocide+theft+lies equal? And, is there any real difference today? I don't think so.

Christianity. It was founded on it. Blood, and not the blood of Christ, either. The blood of innocents who were devout to their own faith.

Frikkin' Romans can kiss my ass.
