Border Policy

Lots of discussion lately on Border Security. Our Governor in New Mexico and also the Arizona Governor have declared states of emergency over the issue. I tend to agree with the conservatives on this issue. This is diluting the work pool with low wage workers, putting a damper on wages for all of us. Remember labor works on the supply and demand policy just like everything else. Nothing is being done because the corporate interests control the Repubs and the DLC. The answer? First of all I am in favor of LEGAL immigration and green cards. This is not a race thing. We need to hold the companies responsible if they hire illegal workers. We need a green card that includes a hologram or something that can not be easily forged. We need to incarcerate illegal workers for a while to provide a penalty for breaking the law. Maybe we could use one of those closed military bases for that?
That's a few brief thoughts. What are yours? I'd like to hear them.

Why hold the companies responsible but put the workers in jail?

I say put the employers in the same prison as the illegal workers. I am all for enforcing the law. There are laws about hiring illegal workers, did you ever see an executive charged with hiring illegals?

I want it easier for people to come to the USA legally. I want illegal immigration stopped. I want illegals deported and thier employers jailed.

i agree with you on this one enforcing the laws and or stiffining the existing laws is a good step i still worry about the thousands and thousands of miles of unprotected borders it seems impossible to be able to guard every single entry point. What do you think about a wall i know thats sound extreme but aside from hiring 1 million boarder agents i don't see how we can keep illegals out. its the leaky boat theroy the first thing you do is stop the leak then you worry about the water that has already come into the boat.

What the hell has happened to your site...it has become an infomercial site... (Agent Orange, cartoon animals???)

Anyway..Ron, you have it correct on this one...

All illegals should be sent back to their home lands...I don't like hearing Bush say he is going to let all the people that have broke the law ever since Reagan granted amnesty in the 1980's stay. It shows that you can break the law and get away with it...

A worker program should be put in place...but this seems to be the Bush plan...the problem is all politicians are trying to figure out which policy will piss off Mexican's the least instead of doing what is best for this country.

It has gotten so bad, that FINNALLY some of the boarder states are forced to do something...maybe we will stop giving drivers licenses to illegals. They are destroying hospitals in boarder states, and school budgets are being eaten up more and more by illegals children.

Come legally, work hard, and take advantage of the greatest country in the world, but we have to stop giving benefits and help to people who break the law.

If real Americans stop hiring them, they will not come. Jail the employers with their workers. Then deport the workers. There is no need for a wall across the desert. Remove the reason they come. Stop the hiring of illegals. The business men know the law. Is making more money an excuse to break it?

Before we have a worker program or invite more potential low wage workers in here we first need to stablize the wage base...IE more jobs, fewer workers.

The real answer is for Mexico to get their act together so those people don't feel a need to leave their home and families.Their is plenty of wealth in the country but only a few have most of it. Any ideas on how that might be achieved?

The Mexican government can give large amounts of money to Haliburton. They could declare Bush king moonie for life and let the Saudis run their economy.

Sorry, the real solution is to get rid of NAFTA, and it looks like we have a slight chance of doing that. See Softwood dispute heats up
